Triumph Pavilion

Location: London, England
Type: Competition Entry

This pavilion proposal intends to present itself as an armature representing a walk-through Museum Garden. Capturing the central space with a singular idea of a form that in fact is 6 smaller pavilions brought together by a larger implied circle. At its centre a meeting place for all visitors complete with a skim of water to provide a moment of play and a chance to cool off. Flanked by benches and a lemonade stand visitors can stroll through the garden and pavilion or take a seat and enjoy the plaza.

Each of the six small pavilions situate themselves to reference the six main trees that themselves prescribe this garden. Each pavilion frames the central meeting space for many but on their own provide a more private experience for visitors to have with each of the trees. The pavilions surface takes on a slatted nature that dapples light in a way that is inspired by the dappling of light through a tree canopy. The forms splay open on their interiors to reveal a direct view of the tree canopy as a complex, every changing view themselves. This armature encourages views to look up, calm down and relax in the park.
